Champions League Producers answer readers questions!! We Answer Your Questions!

In this blog entry we decided to try to answer some of your question in an effort to give you the most accurate information about UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 on Xbox 360. We appreciate your feedback and interest in our game and encourage you to continue to help us make better games by providing your feedback. Our development team reads your posts and follows the message boards and forums and we try to address many of the changes you suggest. We hope this blog entry helps encourage more dialogue between our development team and you guys, the people who play our games. Thanks for participating and posting your questions.

Question: The ability for CHEATING players to disconnect via XBOXLIVE with no record that the game existed. We have suggested (for years) via the forums that you remove the time stipulation for a game to be recorded & hard code the existence of a game as soon as it begins. Will cheaters be able to disconnect prior to the end of a match without a record that the game existed?

Answer: We have carried over the existing online functionality from FIFA. No one likes to play against a cheater, but we support the Microsoft Gamertag reputation function. If someone pulls the plug, rate them low. Before you jump into a match with someone, check their reputation. If they don't have 3 stars or more, look for another match.

Question: Will there be the 'classic' analog controller configuration available in the champions league game?

Answer: Yes. Classic analog controller is available.

Question: Have collisions been changed in this game?

Answer: Yes. This has been tuned to be far smoother in Champions League Xbox 360. Collisions have been given an upgrade, whereby players in Champions League will now do a better job of preserving momentum when colliding with other players.

Question: Would you still be able to hit a shot at the goalkeeper for him to 'give' it to a striker to score or have it frequently rebound off him into the goal?

Answer: We’re not sure exactly what you’re seeing in gameplay with regards to this question. It is true with the new more realistic ball physics sometimes shots will result in rebounds. Sometimes these rebounds result in goals if opponents are in the right position to receive them, sometimes rebounds are cleared or second shots are also saved.

Question: Would there be 'super cancel' so your player can interrupt the animation & go to the ball instead of waiting for it to be intercepted ?

Answer: No.

Question: Via onlineplay, you said that injuries would carry over from offline play. We hope that you see the error of your ways and not allow this to be active via the online lobby matchups because players would deliberately injure the star players & it would be ridiculous that your full team is not available for the following match.

Answer: If you do not want injuries to carry over, you can continue to play the game as our previous football titles have worked -- use an existing club. Online injuries only carry over in your Ultimate Team.

There are two ways to deal with people who try to injure your players: in the game and out of the game. In the game, when I play with my Ultimate Team, I like to play against other people's Ultimate Team. If they start fouling your players, you could do it right back. Or, you could play the Strict Ref card and ensure they get sent off. There is also the Avoid Injury card that ensures you do not receive any major injuries and also reduces the chance of picking up minor ones. After the match, you can use Healing cards to shake off injuries faster (or even instantly). You can also play offline matches to tick through your injury delay -- online and offline matches count equally in calculating the length of an injury.

Out of the game, if someone is purposefully injuring your players, use the Gamertag reputation functionality and give them an "avoid" rating.


Question: Will a demo be released?

Answer: Yes. We will release a demo in March.

Question: Will there be any tricks (rainbow, flipflaps) available in Champions League?

Answer: Not like what you have described. However, in UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 on XBOX 360, dribbling will enable you to trigger skill moves and beat defending players.

Brutal Stop: By pressing the RT or RB button without giving any direction with the left stick, the player abruptly stops. This helps keep control of the ball and unbalance the defender by abruptly changing the pace. RT makes the player stop and maintain the direction they were originally traveling. RB makes the player stop automatically face the opponent goal.

Change Lane: Release the direction control and turn 90 degree left or right as the player is slowing down. This is best employed when a defending player is approaching the player in possession from directly ahead at pace and with a little bit of space between the two players.

Knock On: Tapping the right analog stick while dribbling the gamer will be able to knock the ball into space. This move is best used on the Counter Attack or when a defending player is about to tackle to either unbalance the opponent and beat them or draw a foul.

Stop and Go: Hold the sprint button and release the left stick while dribbling and the player will briefly stop. Move in the original direction again with the left analog stick and the player will perform a Stop and Go as he will move on sprinting again.

Feint: In the middle of a 45 degree turn, use the right analog stick to flick the ball in another 45 degree direction. This is difficult to perform but is very effective to dribble past an opponent.

Context Skill Moves: The fact that the ball is completely independent enables you to perform a myriad of unique and unscripted skill moves based on context (the player attributes, the position of the ball and the gamer input) of any given situation. For example, the ball could be chipped over the head of the receiving player or he could juggle the ball several times after performing a successful trap. The more you play the more you will be able to see and reproduce those unique and exciting moves.


Question: Will you be able to go online and play via the Lobby like in FIFA 07?

Answer: If I am understanding your question correctly, yes, you can go online and play against other users.

Question: Will forwards make a run for through balls?

Answer: Yes. By pressing the LT button and directing the left analog stick at a team mate during a match will manually trigger that supporting player to run into space behind a defender. This move is a fundamental attacking tactic used in real football matches. There is also more depth to the passing mechanic, including turning 1-2 passes, the through ball, AI and timing. New passing animations have been created. Player selection on the through pass now works similarly to the existing “Touch Sensitive” passing mechanism. If the through pass button is pressed quickly the through pass will be played to the closest man. If the through pass button is held longer it will play to a farther player. This means the user will have more control in selecting which player he is trying to pick out with a through ball.

Question: Will players standing still wait for a pass to come to them or move towards the pass like in real life?

Answer: This has been tuned for Champions League Xbox 360 to give you some control of the receiver now.

Question: Will players get tired as the match progresses or will you be able to hold down the sprint button for the entire match. Ronaldinho does not run at full speed throughout the whole field all 90 minutes. Even Sergio Ramos gets tired and starts returns slowly to defense and his pases are less accurate.

Answer: Fatigue has been tuned for Champions League Xbox 360. When a player touches the ball you will notice on the screen a fatigue bar that shows the player’s level of fitness during the match. As a player goes on an extended run you will see his speed start to drop off and he will begin to tire. You will notice this in his play and it will be reinforced in his fatigue meter.

Question: Why does the keeper automatically come out to intercept a ball?

Answer: In some cases yes, the keeper will come out to intercept the ball. There is also the option for the user to press Y and make the keeper pursue the ball.

Question: Why are finesse shots at the corner of the 16x50 always goals?

Answer: This has been tuned for Champions League Xbox 360.

Question: On free kicks, why didn't you at least put a line on the bar that you should try to match out to give the proper strength to ball for a goal?

Answer: We felt it was too easy to score if we had a line on the power bar. We tuned Free Kick to be about feeling, skill and experience.

Question: Is there just going to be only one stadium in the entire game? No true Club Authentic stadiums? Just that one "Ultimate Stadium"?

Answer: There are 22 licensed stadiums in Champions League Xbox 360. The Ultimate Stage is the official fantasy stadium from UEFA.

Question: When you are running at full speed with the ball and kick it, it’s as if you accidentally kicked the ground and the shot turned into a pass for the goalkeeper. Has this been fixed?

Answer: Remember, a shot’s accuracy and power is determined by many factors including the player’s attributes, his fatigue, team momentum, and timing the kick given his ball handling. Sometimes players don’t get a full piece of it. So every shot will not always be the perfect strike.


Question: I'd like to see the club's official numbers and names on the back of their uniforms. Is that possible?

Answer: Unfortunately, we do not have the rights to use the official fonts the teams use.
